The Refugees have many needs and in particular for household items in good shape.  This could include kitchen utensils and cooking supplies, plates, cups, all kitchen supplies, cleaning and hygiene supplies, non-perishable food items including (Rice, Wheat, Sugar, Canned vegetables and canned meats, cooking oil, olive oil, salt, pepper, flour, dry beans/lentils, etc.), blankets, bed-sheets, pillows, towels, rugs, etc.
Rotary is storing items for Syrian families in the homes of two Syrian women who are members of Rotary’s collaborating group, the Syrian Women’s Club.
If you have items, please email to discuss.

They will discuss with you the item(s) you have available, and give you the address and agree to a time when you can drop off your items.

As for larger items ...

they could be directed to a warehouse that is also taking donations for Syrian refugees and is looked after by the Syrian Refugee Support Group.  Those items in good shape would include:  beds, tables, chairs, couches, appliances,  etc.  The warehouse is open for donations every week Sat/Sun 12pm-6pm and Mon/Tues 6pm-9pm.  Please email Sam Nammoura to discuss your potential items and for the address.

MENTORS
Rotary’s work with Syrian Refugees is also extending to mentoring families over the next year.  If you have an interest in this area, email Garth Toombs, and he will send you information explaining what is expected.  The mentoring program is getting underway quickly, thus mentors will receive training very soon, and get into the work immediately.

WELCOME KITS
Welcome kits are being put together for Syrian families.  These kits contain both food and staple items, and non-perishable household items.  The approximate cost of a Syrian Family kit is $250.  Rotary clubs that would like to participate in providing the kits could make a donation.  Donations should go to Rotary Club of Calgary, 105  12 Avenue S.E. Calgary  T2G 1A1 identifying that the funds are for Syrian Welcome Kits.  Any club that would like to have information on the contents of the kit can email Ghada Alatrash or Garth Toombs.  We are working closely with the Syrian Women’s Club on the kits, and they will assemble and distribute them appropriately to Syrian Refugee Families.
