Making Change Happen, Dec 24&31, Jan 1, CTV

Many of you may remember Rick Castiglione sitting in front of the camera delivering the evening news in Calgary. Rick’s biggest love is that of telling stories and he created a story about Cambodia in the early 1990s when it was still suffering the after-effects of the Kmer Rouge regime. Rick just finished his teaching career at Mount Royal University where he skillfully guided students in the broadcasting program to creating compelling works of interest. Rick heard about our club’s projects in Cambodia and was eager to tell the story of Rotarians making a difference in the world.

The Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown, World Community Service committee hired Rick to write and produce a half-hour documentary about the work of Rotary with a primary focus on international efforts. He travelled with Walter Haessle, Frank Sparks, Kurt Kowalchuk and Manon Mitchell to Cambodia in December of 2015. Rick also visited the club interviewing members of the leadership team and rounding out the story of the impact our club has on our community both locally and internationally.

This wonderful documentary entitled Making Change Happen will air on CTV (nationwide) three times this Christmas season: December 24th December 31st and January 1st at 6:30 pm. Stay tuned to CTV and watch how the people in Rotary Make Change Happen!

2018 Curling Bonspiel, Feb 23-25, Edmonton

We have become aware that there are Rotarian, Rotaract & Exchange Student curlers (or “would like-to-be” curlers) who may not be able to form a 4-person curling team within their own Club.

The 2018 Rotary District Bonspiel Committee stands ready to help form teams from such individuals.  If you think you might like to participate in this event (details at www.rotarydistrictbonspiel2018.ca) please email Brian Thompson (bthom@planet.eon.net) with your name, Club name, preferred position (if any) and years of curling experience (if any).  We will do our best to match you up with other individuals so you can join a team and participate in the Bonspiel.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our opening Reception/Registration at the Thistle Curling Club in Edmonton on Thursday evening, February 22, 2018.  Actual curling will commence on Friday morning and the four event finals will happen on Sunday afternoon.  Friday night and Saturday night social events will occur at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre.

Yours in Rotary,
Brian Thompson,
Rotary Club of Edmonton West,
Host of 2018 Rotary District 5360/5370 Bonspiel
