A further update for you, enabling you to make appropriate decisions regarding your donations in support of The Fort McMurray disaster.
Many Rotarians have advised me that they would like to donate via District 5360 so we do have another option for you. From a District point of view these are three ways you can donate although there are of course many others:
- Donate to District 5360 via The Rotary Club of Canmore Charitable Foundation at www.rotaryclubofcanmore.ca/charitablefoundation . Click on the `Fort McMurray Relief Fund link and select ``choose this cause``. This takes you to an ATB web site . By going this route all donations will be matched by 15% by ATB. Tax Receipts will be issued for all donations $25 and over.
Cheques can also be mailed to:
The Canmore Rotary Club Charitable Foundation
P.O. Box 8025, Canmore , AB T1W 2T8
(Memo: "Fort McMurray Relief Fund")
The idea here is that once funds have been collected we will then to talk to Fort McMurray Rotarians and District 5370 to determine where these funds could be best utilised, as the town starts to rebuild.
A committee consisting of Canmore Rotarians along with other District representatives will then make decisions and forward funds to District 5370 Charitable Foundation which will then be responsible for fund disbursement. You will then be advised what your donated funds have gone towards.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Canmore Club for agreeing to take on this task on behalf of The District.
Hopefully this will answer many questions that you might have. There will also be an opportunity at our District Conference to donate.
Thank you very much for everything you are doing. I have heard of a number of wonderful donations already.
Call for Nominations for the Donald MacRae Peace Award
Each year Zones 24 and 32 celebrate a person or organization for outstanding achievement consistent with the ideas expressed in the Fourth Object of Rotary: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through humanitarian activity of international significance.
Every Rotary Club and District in Zones 24 and 32 is encouraged to submit one application for the Donald MacRae Peace Award. The awards will be presented at the Zone Institute in Winnipeg next fall if possible or at a venue agreed upon by the award winner.
Candidates for the awards will have demonstrated the advancement of international goodwill, understanding and peace through peace-making efforts or humanitarian activity of international significance. The award is open to Rotarians and non-Rotarians, but the applicant must have a relationship with the nominating Club or District.
The application form is available at this link. Deadline for applications is May 15, 2016; email them to:
The award honours the contributions of Halifax Rotarian Donald MacRae who, at the International Convention in 1918, proposed that Rotary become an agent for the promotion of goodwill and peace among nations. This was the first time that this vision of Rotary had been publicly expressed. Thus the fourth Object of Rotary was established.

The Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp (AYEC) Partners, with the endorsement of your Rotary District 5360 Board of Directors, would like to ask for the participation of your Rotary club as sponsors and volunteers in AYEC 2016
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp (AYEC) is a week-long camp where 60 youth (ages 13-15 years old), from all over Southern Alberta and south west Saskatchewan, learn how to be young entrepreneurs. The summer of 2016 will be the 20-year anniversary the camp has taken place and, as in every past year, will be held at Eagles Nest Ranch (ENR) in the Cypress Hills of South East Alberta. The camp takes place during the 3rd week of August (specific dates are forthcoming).
Another highlight of the AYEC is the Youth Leader training program, wherein 10 previous AYEC campers, that are between the ages of 16-18, return to camp as Youth Leaders. They participate in a 3-day training period prior to camp that instructs them on self-discovery as well as improving their leadership skills.
Due to the generous support from Rotary, the Alberta Government, and other core sponsors, the 10 Community Future Office Partners have been able to deliver this camp at no cost to the participants. These Community Futures offices (see attached) also provide financial sponsorship as well as volunteers. One Community Futures office, due to its proximity to the camp, (Community Futures Entre-Corp, located in Medicine Hat), takes the lead for this project.
SPONSORSHIP
A Rotary club can provide either one or both of the following.
1 or more Campers (youth age 13-15) at a cost of $1,000 each.
1 or more Adult Volunteer(s), (no real costs for the Adult Volunteers. See below)
The camp utilizes approximately 35 volunteers consisting of 10 young adults (Youth Leaders) and 25 adults. Most of the volunteers will continue to be provided by the participating Community Futures offices.
UNDERSTANDING
Details of and information regarding our involvement are as follows.
Each involved club would be connected with a Community Futures office in their area or directly with the Camp Coordinator (Joel Higgins) where Community Futures does not have a partner office (see attached).
As many Rotary clubs as are interested can be involved.
Each Rotary club will need to provide notice of intent to be involved no later than Tuesday, May 31st, 2016.
Sponsorship for an adult volunteer denotes simply providing that individual with the resources they would need to travel to and from camp.
All Adult volunteers require criminal record and vulnerable sector checks.
This program has a successful 20-year history with strong past government support but if, for any reason, the camp did not go forward, all Rotary clubs would have their funding returned.
If your Rotary club is interested in being involved or finding out more about AYEC, please contact your local Community Futures office (see below). We look forward to making the 2016 camp a success through the participation of Rotary clubs and volunteers.
Please relay this information to the people in your club who might be interested, and keep in mind the May deadline for participating this year.
It's best to submit a poster - Suggested Samples are available on Rotary International - Brand Centre (use the same sign in credentials as Rotary.org) Keep in mind your audience; Rotary members and/or general public.
If submitting a word document, please include all the details of the event which are based on the Golden 5 Ws.

Rotary International through its Rotary Fellowships provides opportunities for Rotarians to join with Rotarians around the world who share a common interest in recreational activities, hobbies and sports. The International Golfing Fellowship of Rotary, for instance, makes it possible to enjoy golf and fellowship with other Rotarians through various events including an annual international tournament.
Golfers of all skill levels are grouped according to their handicaps and meet new friends and enjoy golf at excellent courses followed by a variety of social activities. Next summer, the get-together event is being held in Rotterdam.
Of particular interest is the 2017 Tournament that Canada will be hosting in Victoria, BC, Aug 6 - 11, 2017. Register at http://www.igfr2017.ca/ Regardless of your golfing ability, this will be a fun event to meet and play with other Rotarians from all over the globe.
