Pour a cup of coffee or tea, there is lots to catch up on.  Let’s take a look at my diary of new and ongoing key items for you!

I have just come from a Rotary meeting, and… I am so inspired by what people are doing and working on during this time of reflection and rebuilding.  Tonight, I heard of a club who is taking time to REMAKE their club, to REMAKE their meetings, and to REMAKE their membership program.  Rotary attracts lots of people, and unfortunately looses as many or more every year.  We need to look at ourselves and make our Club EXPERIENCE IRRESISTABLE!  Without members we are alone, and it is tough having fellowship and doing service work by yourself.  Neil Berg and Cory Tretiak, District Membership committee, are recruiting; they need help, and have some really cool ideas to help our clubs!  So, Get involved, Make a difference, Lend a Hand, share your skills and talents.  Pick up the phone, or send an email, the District needs you!

Assistant Governors Needed We are looking for Assistant Governors who enjoy working with others, learning about new ways to conduct Rotary business and enjoy working with youth.  AND, live in the Medicine Hat or Lethbridge areas of our District.  If this is a FIT for you, then DGE Martin Parnell is the Rotarian you should be calling.  Contact Martin our DGE, at mjparnell@shaw.ca.

Taipei I know that some of you are wondering what is going on with our Rotary International Convention.  I have been told that we should be hearing a decision from RI in the next four weeks – stay tuned for further information on updates from RI!

Drumheller District Conference – It is with a heavy heart that I must let you know that the organizing committee has decided to pivot from our original plans to have a district-wide in-person event to a district-wide virtual one-day event on Saturday, April 17th.  Between the uncertainty of a time when we will all be vaccinated and the uncertainty of when the Medical Officer of Health will allow us to gather, I feel that we are making the most appropriate financial and medical decision for our District.
The silver lining of this decision is that even more of our Rotary youth will be able to attend, and even more of our Rotarians will be able to attend with travel and accommodation no longer a factor.

Club Leadership Training, and MyRotary.org Online Training – what have you learned lately?  February and March will provide opportunities for the leadership in your club to take part in some amazing virtual training sessions.  These will be offered over four different times so I am sure that there will be a date and a time that you will be able to make work.  Register on the District Website and take some online courses to prepare.  We WANT a minimum of four Rotarians from each club to register and attend these awesome sessions – don’t miss out!
Get the most out of the Club Leadership Training Sign in to MyRotary.org and take a course on- line at the Learning Centre.  Start with the introduction to the Learning Centre and branch out to Rotary Basics and then your course of interest.  Ask Rob Wolfson to come to your club and help you get started.

And a few other musings from our Rotary International President-Elect Jennifer Jones:
  • Rotarians need to use our voices to support the vaccination process to throw out COVID19.
  • Women in Rotary, worldwide average is 24%, we need to attract the brightest men and women to our organization.
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion provides an opportunity to look at things from a diverse perspective using multiple lenses.

Rotarians are known as being people of action - Rotary General Secretary John Hewko has these Six Calls to Action:
  1. Rotaract – 5% become Rotarians, we need to strengthen the ties between us.
  2. Member retention - consider club vibrancy.
  3. Be creative and continue doing Rotary projects.
  4. Fundraising - be innovative and collaborative.
  5. Use Virtual opportunities to connect with others.
  6. Rethink the Rotary experience/product.

Let me close with this, the Four Way Test, a little joy, rhythm and life to inspire you!  Go Rotary Go!

Yours in Rotary Service,
